The reigning champions exit was one of the big round of 16 surprises, along with Türkiye’s progression to the quarter-finals; all the other games went as predictions would have suggested. With eight National Teams still in the running in Germany, there are &lt;strong&gt;18 players&lt;/strong&gt; who competed in Serie A last season still in the tournament, from the 6 for Switzerland to just Leao for Portugal.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The first round of 16 clash was the worst for Azzurri fans. Yakin’s &lt;strong&gt;Switzerland&lt;/strong&gt; side with their 3-4-2-1 set up beat Italy by making the most of their &lt;strong&gt;Bologna boys&lt;/strong&gt; in the midfield with &lt;strong&gt;Ndoye&lt;/strong&gt; down the right wing and &lt;strong&gt;Freuler&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;Aebischer&lt;/strong&gt;. It was Remo &lt;strong&gt;Freuler&lt;/strong&gt;, eight seasons in the Italian top flight, who opened the scoring before Michel Aebischer provided the assist for Vargas to double the lead. &lt;strong&gt;Sommer&lt;/strong&gt; (Inter) had little to do for the Swiss, only making one save, as did &lt;strong&gt;Rodriguez &lt;/strong&gt;(Torino), just as solid as the rest of the defence. Former AC Milan man, Kjaer, closes out his campaign without picking up any minutes just like Kristensen, who spent the last year at Roma. The Bologna left-back, Kristiansen, on the other hand, played another 15 minutes off the bench against Germany.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;On the second day of last 16 action, &lt;strong&gt;England&lt;/strong&gt; sent Calzona’s &lt;strong&gt;Slovakia&lt;/strong&gt; packing with a heart-stopping last minute win with goals from two of the Three Lions’ main men, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane. Slovakia with &lt;strong&gt;Lobotka&lt;/strong&gt; (Napoli), &lt;strong&gt;Duda&lt;/strong&gt; (Verona), and former Serie A player, Kucka, in the midfield, missed out on qualification at the death and kissed goodbye to the dream of a history-making finish. Suslov (Hellas Verona) came on in the 61st minute and Gyomber (Salernitana) was also thrown into the fray in injury time to defend the advantage.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Georgia and &lt;strong&gt;Kvaratskhelia &lt;/strong&gt;(Napoli) went out to De La Fuente’s &lt;strong&gt;Spain&lt;/strong&gt; side who didn’t give in after the shocking Georgia opener and walked away with four goals and a spot in the quarter-finals where they will face Germany, the only fixture without any Serie A Enilive players.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Deschamps’ &lt;strong&gt;France&lt;/strong&gt; made it through past Belgium thanks to a Vertonghen own goal in the final minutes and another Mike Maignan clean sheet, only having conceded once so far at the Euros. The France starting XI also featured &lt;strong&gt;Hernandez&lt;/strong&gt;, &lt;strong&gt;Rabiot&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;Thuram&lt;/strong&gt;.
