Serie A Enilive takes a break after three thrilling matchdays to make way for international fixtures, offering an opportunity to reflect on a season full of surprises. Unlike last year, when AC Milan and Inter were the only teams with a perfect record, no team has achieved three consecutive victories so far. This year, four teams are tied at the top, making the league table more balanced and unpredictable.

Under the guidance of debutant coach Runjaić, Udinese has made a solid start, drawing away at Bologna and winning their first two home matches—a feat not achieved since the 2014/15 season under Stramaccioni. The Friulani have celebrated goals from four different scorers, including Brenner, who scored his first Serie A goal and became the first Brazilian to do so for Udinese since Maicosuel.

Vanoli`s Torino has kicked off the season with confidence, drawing with AC Milan and defeating Atalanta before securing a last-minute win at the Penzo thanks to Saúl Coco’s first goal in Italy. The Granata have relied on stalwarts like Zapata and Ilic, while also integrating new arrivals such as Equatorial Guinean defender Coco and former Southampton striker Ché Adams.

Reigning champions Inter started their campaign with a 2-2 draw at Ferraris against Genoa but quickly bounced back with commanding victories over Lecce and Atalanta. Marcus Thuram, in fine form, has scored four goals in three matches, including a four-goal performance against Atalanta, making Inter the team with the most wins over Gasperini’s Atalanta in Serie A since the 2016/17 season.

Juventus slowed down on the third matchday with a 0-0 draw against Roma, following two convincing 3-0 victories over Como and Hellas Verona. Thiago Motta’s team is the only one yet to concede a goal this season, has seen young talents like Mbangula and Savona find the net, and has already fielded all of its new signings, including Koopmeiners, Conceição, and Nico González.

Conte’s Napoli quickly recovered from their opening defeat to Hellas Verona, signalling their intent with a decisive win over Bologna and a dramatic late victory against Parma with goals from Lukaku and Anguissa. The Partenopei have secured back-to-back Serie A wins for the first time since February-March of the previous season, both achieved at the Maradona.

With 6 points alongside Napoli, Zanetti’s Hellas Verona has impressed with a solid start, achieving two notable feats: a winning debut at home against Napoli, highlighted by Livramento and Mosquera’s magical performances, and an away triumph at Ferraris against Genoa, featuring the first Serie A goals of Tchatchoua and Tengstedt.

With 5 points, D’Aversa’s Empoli has shown a contrasting start compared to last season, when they were bottom after three games without any points. This season, the Azzurri have remained unbeaten in their first three Serie A matches for only the second time in their history, following the 2006/07 season. Emmanuel Gyasi, a key figure in Empoli’s strong start, has scored in consecutive Serie A games for the first time in his career.

One point below, Lazio, Parma, and Genoa are making their mark. For Baroni’s Lazio, standout performers include Castellanos, who has already scored twice (compared to four goals last year), and Nuno Tavares, who provided 2 assists against AC Milan. Parma, the best of the promoted teams, has relied heavily on Dennis Man, who has scored in the first two matches. Genoa, with Pinamonti leading the charge, has broken their Monza curse, securing their first Serie A victory over the Brianzoli after two losses last year.

Atalanta, Lecce, and Fiorentina are all on 3 points. The Bergamaschi started strong with a 4-0 win over Lecce at Via del Mare but then lost to Torino and Inter, and are now eager to return to the Gewiss Stadium. Lecce, on the other hand, responded to a poor start with a decisive goal from Krstovic against Cagliari. Palladino’s Fiorentina has recorded three consecutive draws, a feat previously achieved only once in their history, during the 1936/37 season. For the first time, the Tuscan side has drawn all five of their opening matches across all competitions.

AC Milan, trailing by 7 points compared to last season, has conceded at least two goals in each of their first three games for the first time since 1983/84. Roma also has 2 points and has scored only one goal in their first three matches this season, marking their worst start since the 1986/87 Serie A season.

With two draws and one loss each, Monza, Bologna, and Cagliari are in the mix. Monza, thwarted by a last-minute goal from Gosens in Florence, benefits from 22-year-old Daniel Maldini, the youngest player to score at least five goals in Serie A in 2024, and Milan Djuric, who has netted 12 goals from crosses over the last four Serie A seasons, trailing only Lautaro Martínez (14), Olivier Giroud (15), and Victor Osimhen (17) in that period.

In Italiano’s Bologna, still unbeaten at Dall’Ara, 21-year-old Giovanni Fabbian continues to develop, making him the youngest midfielder to score so far this season. Meanwhile, Nicola’s Cagliari shares the dubious distinction of being the unluckiest team in the league with Roma, having hit the woodwork four times.

At the bottom of the table, Como and Venezia have each earned only one point, struggling with the adjustment to their new league. Como, in particular, can lament Cutrone’s missed penalty in the last minute against Udinese.
