&lt;p&gt;The most highly anticipated evening has arrived: tonight at 21.00 CEST the Spaniard &lt;strong&gt;Jesus Gil Manzano&lt;/strong&gt; will blow the kick-off in the first leg of the derby which is the second semi-final of the Champions League, the seventeenth all-Italian clash in Europe, after the draw between &lt;strong&gt;Real Madrid&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;Manchester City&lt;/strong&gt; in the first match yesterday.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;For the fifth time, the two Milanese sides will play each other in the Champions League, for the third time at this point in the competition. In the previous two double-headers, it had been &lt;strong&gt;Milan&lt;/strong&gt; who went through, in the semi-finals in 2003 with two draws, going through on the away goals rule, now abolished, and in the quarter-finals, two years later with two victories, 1-0 as the away team and 2-0 as hosts.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Against Italian opponents in general, &lt;strong&gt;Milan&lt;/strong&gt; have won five times, drawn five and lost only once, against &lt;strong&gt;Parma&lt;/strong&gt; in the second leg of the European Super Cup final in 1990. The other matches were against &lt;strong&gt;Sampdoria&lt;/strong&gt;, also in the European Super Cup final, and against Juventus in the Champions League final in 2003. For Inter, on the other hand, two defeats and two draws against the Rossoneri and a single victory against Lazio in the 1998 Uefa Cup final.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;For both, it is a return to the semi-finals that has been long-awaited: 16 for &lt;strong&gt;Milan&lt;/strong&gt;, not here since the 2006/07 season when they eliminated &lt;strong&gt;Manchester&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;United&lt;/strong&gt; and then lifted the Cup against &lt;strong&gt;Liverpool&lt;/strong&gt;, and 13 for Inter, who got rid of &lt;strong&gt;Barcelona&lt;/strong&gt; before their triumph in Madrid against &lt;strong&gt;Bayern&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;Munich&lt;/strong&gt; (the last Italian victory).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;For the thirteenth time in their history, the diavolo will be playing for a spot in the final (going through in eight of the last nine occasions), placing fourth behind &lt;strong&gt;Real&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;Madrid&lt;/strong&gt; (32), &lt;strong&gt;Bayern&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;Munich&lt;/strong&gt; (20) and &lt;strong&gt;Barcelona&lt;/strong&gt; (17) in the special semi-final attendance ranking, while the Nerazzurri will be playing a semi-final in a European competition for the ninth time.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;While the Rossoneri finished second in Group E behind &lt;strong&gt;Chelsea&lt;/strong&gt;, then eliminated &lt;strong&gt;Tottenham&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;Napoli&lt;/strong&gt;, the Nerazzurri got this far thanks to second place in the group of death with &lt;strong&gt;Bayern&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;Munich&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;Barcelona&lt;/strong&gt; and victories over &lt;strong&gt;Porto&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;Benfica&lt;/strong&gt; in the knockout rounds.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This will be the fourth clash of the season between the two teams, following the EA SPORTS SUPERCUP final won by &lt;strong&gt;Inter&lt;/strong&gt; 3-0 in Saudi Arabia in January, and the two league derbies with &lt;strong&gt;Milan&lt;/strong&gt; winning 3-2 in the first leg and the Nerazzurri 1-0 in the return. &lt;strong&gt;Inzaghi`s&lt;/strong&gt; boys also prevailed in the last two-legged knockout fixture, in the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa semi-final last season.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;An interesting challenge between &lt;strong&gt;Stefano&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;Pioli&lt;/strong&gt;, the former coach of Inter, and &lt;strong&gt;Simone&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;Inzaghi&lt;/strong&gt;, who took over from Pioli at the helm of &lt;strong&gt;Lazio&lt;/strong&gt; on 3 April 2016, beginning his coaching career among the `big boys`.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Second leg on Tuesday, 16 May, to find out who will book their flight to Istanbul for the final.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;(Photo LaPresse)&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
